The Editor tab configures the object-model based request editor — the core editor used in API Playground and Test Automation. It is grouped under Editor & Editing Behavior, plus a Format HTTP Message option.

To reach it: open Settings, select the Editor tab, adjust the controls, changes auto-save on close.

edit Default Editing Mode

What it does — Sets the default view mode for requests and responses. TabView shows requests and responses in separate tabs; ColumnView shows request and response side by side in two columns.

When to use — Use ColumnView on wide screens to see request and response together; use TabView on smaller screens to maximize space.

How to set — Open the Default Editing Mode dropdown and pick a mode; the change applies immediately.

Request Editing Experience

Fine-tunes how the request editor behaves while you type and navigate.

Select text when focused

What it does — When a textbox is focused, selects all its text for quick value replacing. Default: on.

When to use — Keep enabled to overwrite field values quickly; disable if you often edit only part of a value.

Auto-shrink service list pane

What it does — When enabled, the service list pane is hidden after a service is selected; otherwise it stays open. Default: off.

When to use — Enable on narrow screens to reclaim space after picking a service.

Object pre-load Levels

What it does — When editing an object with the tree view, sets how many levels of properties are pre-loaded.

When to use — Increase to expand deep objects up front; decrease to speed up loading of very large object trees.

Allow Invalid Requests

What it does — When enabled, manually edited requests are sent even if they fail deserialization. Default: off (Strict Mode).

When to use — Enable when debugging raw HTTP and you need to send deliberately malformed requests; keep off for normal, validated editing.

Validation delay (ms)

What it does — How long to wait after you stop typing before re-validating the request text and updating the object tree. Range: 100–2000 ms (default 500).

When to use — Lower for a more responsive feel; raise to reduce CPU use during long typing bursts.

How to set — Adjust the Validation delay (ms) stepper.

Indentation size

What it does — Sets the number of spaces used for indentation in the editor. Range: 1–8 (default 2).

When to use — Match your team's formatting conventions.

code Format HTTP Message

What it does — Tries to format the HTTP response when the HTTP body is XML- or JSON-based, for a better reading experience. Default: on.

When to use — Keep enabled for readable, pretty-printed responses; disable to inspect the raw, unmodified body.

How to set — Toggle Format HTTP Message; the change applies immediately.
