Extension Ecosystem
Extensions add new capabilities to Aethrix Studio. They can provide typed API clients, custom test steps, service simulation handlers, and more.
Extension Lifecycle
Extension Types
| Type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| API Extension | Typed .NET client for an API — generated from an OpenAPI/WSDL spec, packaged as .pkg |
| Service Extension | Custom service protocol support (e.g., gRPC, MQTT) |
| Automation Extension | Custom test steps, data sources, or report formats |
Extensions installed from the repository can be updated when new versions are available. Local API imports are tied to the workspace and don't receive updates.
Distribution
Extensions are distributed as .pkg files (NuGet-like packages). The .pkg format includes:
- Compiled .NET assemblies
- Type metadata and service definitions
- Extension manifest (name, version, developer, dependencies)
Extension Repository
The Extension Repository is an online catalog of published extensions. You can:
- Browse and search available packages
- View package details (version history, download stats, tags)
- Install packages directly from the repository
- Publish your own extensions
Repository access is configured in Settings → Extension Repository and authenticated via your Aethrix account token.
