Installing Extensions
From the Repository
- Go to Extensions in the navigation pane
- Switch to the Remote Packages tab
- Browse or search for a package
- Click a package to view its details
- Click Install
The button label adapts:
- Install — package is not yet installed, or the version picker holds an older release (version switch / downgrade)
- Update — a newer version is available
- Installed — the picked version is already installed (button disabled)
To install a specific version, open the package's version picker next to the Install button and choose a release; the picker lists every published version, newest first.
During installation, a status message shows progress. A newly installed extension appears immediately in the service tree and test step catalog.
From a Local .pkg File
- Go to Extensions
- On the Installed tab, click Add Extension
- Choose the
.pkgfile from disk - The extension is installed and appears in the list
Via CLI
# From a local .pkg file
aeth install ./MyExtension.1.0.0.pkg
# From the repository (latest version)
aeth install Vendor.PaymentGateway
# Specific version
aeth install Vendor.PaymentGateway --version 1.2.0
# Force reinstall
aeth install ./MyExtension.1.0.0.pkg --force
See CLI Extension Management for the full CLI workflow.
Update Notifications
The Extensions view silently checks for updates when opened. If a newer version is available for an installed extension, a blue Update Available badge appears next to its name.
Updates can be installed from the Remote Packages tab — select the package and click Update.
Embedded vs. Global Extensions
Extensions can be installed globally (available to all projects) or embedded inside a specific project:
| Type | Location | Scope | Managed By |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global | System extensions folder | All projects | Extensions view |
| Embedded | Project extensions/ folder | Single project | Project save/load |
Embedded extensions are automatically loaded when a project is opened and cleaned up (orphaned folders removed) when the project is saved. See Managing Installed Extensions for the embedded extension lifecycle and version resolution policy.
