Service Tree & Organization
The service tree is the left panel (header: Avaliable APIs) in the API Playground view. It organizes all imported APIs into a hierarchical structure.

Hierarchy
The service tree uses a three-level hierarchy. An operation grows a fourth level only when you save a named request on it:
Application
└── Service
└── Operation ← the operation's own request
└── Named request ← one per request you kept with Save as
| Level | Icon | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Web application icon | Top-level group — typically represents an API product or backend system |
| Service | Protocol icon (REST, SOAP, GraphQL, Kafka, gRPC, WebSocket, …) | A logical API grouping within the application (e.g., "Users", "Orders") |
| Operation | Method/operation icon (GET, POST, DELETE, gRPC, Kafka produce/consume, …) | An individual endpoint or RPC call, and the request it holds |
| Named request | Bookmark icon | A second, third… version of that endpoint's request, kept under a name you chose |
Selecting Items
- Application node → shows the Application Detail panel with a service count, an endpoint count, a services grid, and an ALL ENDPOINTS list.
- Service node → shows the Service Detail panel with the parent application, endpoint count, protocol badge, optional URL badge, an ENDPOINTS — CLICK TO OPEN IN EDITOR list, and a tip about updating endpoint descriptions.
- Operation node → loads the request editor with the operation's URL, method, and schema, showing its own request.
- Named request node → loads that request. Right-click it to Rename or Delete it; the operation's own request cannot be renamed or deleted.
Onboarding
When no APIs have been imported yet, the service tree area displays the onboarding panel with three action tiles:
- Import API definition — import an API specification from OpenAPI (Swagger), WSDL, GraphQL schema, or Kafka Schema Registry
- Manage environments — define API endpoints, variables and credentials for each test environment
- Add API Extension — install an API extension to add versioned API definitions
A Recently Tested Services list is also shown below the tiles for quick access to endpoints you have used before.
Importing APIs
Click Import API definition in the toolbar to open the import wizard. Each import adds a new Application → Service → Operations branch to the tree. After the wizard closes, the tree is refreshed automatically.
See Importing API Specifications for details.
Managing the Service Tree
Context Menu (Right-Click)
The current service tree has no right-click context menu. There are no per-node commands such as Remove, Refresh, Add Service, or Manage responses available from the tree itself. To re-import or update an API, use Import API definition again (or install/refresh an API Extension via Add Extension).
Multi-Selection
You cannot select multiple operations simultaneously in the service tree. Each selection replaces the current request editor content.
Collapsing the Panel
Click the Show/Hide API selection pane toggle button (panel icon) in the toolbar to collapse or expand the service tree panel, giving more space to the request editor. Additionally, if the AutoShrinkServiceList setting is enabled, the pane is automatically hidden when you select an operation so the editor has more room. To bring it back, toggle the pane button again or use the Command Palette (Ctrl+K) to search operations.
